Yours Shamefully 2 is a short film, directed by Vignesh Karthick, that tells the story of how an unverified forward or a social media post could turn a person’s life around. Soundarya Bala Nandakumar and Vignesh Karthick star in the lead, with Madhavi in an important role.
The film begins with a bride-seeing function where the families of Vignesh and Soundarya ask them if they masturbate, and they both speak about their sexual desires. We soon realise this scene is from the trailer of a short film, which becomes viral for its content. When the time comes to release the film, Soundarya goes live on Facebook and says she will release it soon after she rips off her clothes. And so the number of views for the video rise.
She then begins the actual tale: Vignesh, who is a graduate driving a cab for a living is the actual victim falsely accused of sexual misconduct by a woman who he had asked not to smoke inside his cab. She explains how this false message posted online by a woman spoiled her lover’s life, as well as hers. She discusses the culture of sharing something on social media for two reasons. One, because it is told by a woman, and two because a man is accused of sexual harassment in post, and that this is shared without verification.
The short film shows how a person is treated by society when falsely charged of sexual harassment. It ends with a message asking people not to share messages on social media without knowing or verifying the truth. The director says that the film is a tribute to Kalai, Sarvjeet Singh Bedi and many others who have been falsely accused.
Produced by Team Moxie, music for the film is composed by Satish Raghunathan. Cinematography is by NS Raajesh Kumar, and CS Premkumar is the editor. Vignesh Karthick directed the 2018 short film Yours Shamefully, which gave a picture of the future of female infanticide. The new film reached four million views in just 3 days.
