Viswasam has been cleared with a ‘U’ certificate with its rights acquired by KJR Studios. Petta was given ‘U/A’, and Red Giant Movies holds the film rights. Both are commercial entertainers, and are headed for a tough competition.

A report by International Business Time says that trade trackers are expecting a gap of at least three days between the releases of both movies to ensure collections are not heavily impacted.

Ajith and Rajinikanth’s films last released together in August 1995. Ajith’s Rajavin Parvayile, also starring Vijay in the lead, released with Rajinikanth’s Hindi film Aatank Hi Aatank on the same day.

Viswasam is directed by Siva, and stars Ajith in the lead with dual roles. Nayanthara will play the female lead in the film. Thambi Ramaiah, Bose Venkat and Yogi Babu play in supporting roles. Produced by TG Thyagarajan of Sathyajyothi Films, the music is composed by D. Imman.

A spokesperson for the producer, Sathya Jyothi Films, said about the film, “We have a reputation for churning out clean entertainers that the entire family can enjoy at the theatres. Viswasam continues in this line of films from us. Ajith sir and Siva sir have given a great product. The film is a mix of both the rural and city entertainers, so all of the audience can enjoy.”

Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj is said to be a light-hearted film. It is bankrolled by Sun Pictures. The film stars Rajinikanth, Trisha Krishnan, M Sasikumar, Simran, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Megha Akash and Sananth. Music for the film is by Anirudh Ravichander.

Reports have it that the film touches upon ‘honour killings’ and Muslim – Hindu clashes in TN. This has not been confirmed by the production house yet.
