Amala Paul Slams Producers Of ‘VSP33’; Says They Removed Her After ‘Aadai’ Teaser

Amala Paul At The Ratsasan Success Meet

Amala Paul has slammed the producers of Vijay Sethupathi-starrer VSP33 of unethically removing her from the film by saying she was not ‘production-friendly’, and accused them of doing so after watching the teaser of her upcoming film Aadai.

In a note this morning, she said she was disappointed for being thrown out of the film for no apparent reason and explained that she had always been supportive of producers and also took salary cuts when her films have incurred losses.

She accused Chandaraa Arts, the producers of VSP33, of not bearing the cost of her accommodation in Ooty and travel for the film, and of sabotaging her image by spreading baseless rumours. She said this decision only revealed their own patriarchal and egotistical mindsets, and that of production houses in Tamil Nadu in general.

“It is disappointing that these pseudo cinema punters write off an actor’s emotional investment as though it means nothing; don’t even get me started on the physical and financial efforts that are put in by an actor right from the word ‘go’,” said Amala, who was incidentally in Mumbai for finetuning her styling in the movie, when news broke that she had been replaced.

She added that she intended no harm to Vijay Sethupathi, and was a huge fan of the actor and looked forward to working with him.

A source close to Amala Paul told Silverscreen that no other reason was given for her removal from the film. When asked if she would take any legal action against the production house, the source said a decision would be taken based on their response to her statement.

Actor Vishnu Vishal was quick to applaud Amala’s statement on Twitter. “Happy to see an actor speak up…Numerous times it so happens that actors are the ones who are at ‘fault’ by ‘default’,” he wrote, adding that he has been tempted to speak out numerous times against being ill-treated by producers.

Amala Paul is currently busy with director Rathna Kumar’s Aadai and her home production Cadaver. The teaser of Aadai trended globally when it released earlier this month, garnering over five million views. It was appreciated for its bold take on a traumatic situation that Amala Paul’s character finds herself in, as seen in the end of the teaser where she wakes up nude in an empty workplace.

As reported yesterday, Megha Akash has replaced Amala Paul in the VSP33, directed by Venkata Krishna Roghanth. She has already started shooting with the rest of the team in Ooty. A third lead actor will also join them shorty, though an official announcement is yet to be made.
