Zee5’s Auto Shankar wins ‘Best Regional Web Series’ at the MTV-IWM Digital Awards

Those of us who were around in the 90s remember the notoriety of Auto Shankar, a serial murderer, who abducted and murdered young women in Chennai shook the city. More than three decades later, a web series based on the cruel incidents that occurred in the 80s and 90s has found recognition with its win at the MTV-IWM Digital Awards. The series was created and produced for Zee5 by R Ravindran of Trident Arts in association with Manoj Paramahamsa.

Producer Manoj Paramahamsa said, “This series is path-breaking for the Tamil indudtry. I am happy that my maiden venture with Trident Arts has received such an honour.”

The entire series was shot over 35 days in various parts of Chennai. The crew paid a lot of attention to ensure that the milieu of the late 80s and early 90s was not lost completely, as the city has changed a lot since those days. “We were keen on retaining the ground reality not compromising with the linguistic authenticity and nativity during the era between 1985 and 1990,” said Paramahamsa.

Streaming on Zee5, Auto Shankar stars Sarath along with Arjun Chidambaram, Swayam Siddha, Arjun Chidambaram, Rajesh Dev and Praveen Koreografia in key roles. Arrol Corelli has composed music and Manoj Paramahamsa has handled cinematography.

The MTV-IWM Digital Awards is an annual event that is held in Mumbai every year and focuses on honouring the work of digital original content producers across all languages.
