Kailasam, son of director K Balachander, passed away today at a private hospital in Chennai. He had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness for the last 10 days.

Kailasam played an integral part in Balachander’s entry into television. He led Minbimbangal Productions, the production house that produced critically acclaimed serials like Kadhal Pagadai, Rekkai Kattiya Manasu, the Marma Desam series, Anni and Sahana. Later, he was also was a part of the Puthiya Thalaimurai television channel.
Various celebrities have been visiting Balachander’s residence at Warren Road to pay their last respects to Kailasam. The cremation will take place at the Besant Nagar crematorium tomorrow.
