Kaththi Release Issue: Theatres Vandalised

In yet another twist to the Kaththi issue – just hours after the film’s team announced that all problems were solved – Sathyam Cinemas and Woodlands theatre in Royapettah were vandalised by unknown people. Kaththi posters seen around the theatre complex were torn apart, and crudely made petrol bombs were tossed inside. Sathyam Cinemas’ publicist told us that the police have identified some of the miscreants from the CCTV footage and are investigating the issue now.

Meanwhile, the Tamizhar Vaazhvurimai group’s spokesperson, Panruti Velmurugan has categorically denied the claims of the Kaththi team and told us that “no decision has been taken till now”. “The Lyca representatives have agreed to remove the name and logo from the posters and promotional material only. They are refusing to remove the name from the film’s title card and this is unacceptable to us! Until all our demands are met, we will continue our protests!”

The Kaththi team, though, maintain that the film will release tomorrow and that bookings will open soon. The theatre owners’ association is meeting yet again today to take a final call on the issue.
