The Madras High Court has ordered the Kanchipuram crime branch to complete investigation in the Nadigar Sangam land misappropriation case and file a response to the allegations made by Sangam general secretary Vishal Krishna, within three months. The long pending case of alleged fraudulent sale of association land by actor Radha Ravi and former office-bearers of the actors’ union including Sarathkumar, KR Selvaraj and MNK Natesan, came up for hearing in the court recently.

As reported earlier, the case was filed against the office-bearers of the South Indian Artistes’ Association (Nadigar Sangam) for allegedly fraudulently selling 26 cents of land owned by the association at Vedamangalam village in Kanchipuram district. The matter came to light when the office-bearers were voted out in June 2016, and notices were sent to them but there was no proper response. Although the association raised a compliant with the Kanchipuram police, they were reluctant to file an FIR saying the accused were influential people. They sought to transfer the case to some other agency.

Vishal and the present office-bearers stated in their police complaint that the documents relating to the land were forged by Radha Ravi, former general secretary, Sarathkumar, former president, and others to sell the land to a third party and convert the proceeds for their own use. The police booked an FIR against the accused only on June 26, 2018, because of a court direction. A report by TNM, says that that in the latest hearing the court pointed out the lack of progress in the case and said that the police neither arrested the accused nor conducted further investigation. The Kanchipuram superintendent of police has now been directed to submit a final report in the next three months.

Meanwhile, the Nadigar Sangam recently announced that they will be conducting elections soon as their extended three-year period has come to an end. Sangam president, actor Nasser has announced that he will be contesting for the president’s post once again.
