Mysskin Pays Tribute To Priya Krishnaswamy’s ‘Baaram’ With Unique Gesture

Mysskin At The 'Baaram' Press Meet

A few weeks back, director Mysskin said at the press meet of Priya Krishnaswamy’s National-Award winning film Baaram that he would go out and paste a couple of posters on walls, as a tribute to the film. Staying true to his word, the director did so on 22 February.

An overwhelmed Priya Krishnaswamy said, “Such a gesture is priceless. He is one of the country’s most celebrated filmmakers. It’s heart-melting to be gifted with his support. The whole buzz about Baaram began with his speech about it at the trailer launch. My deepest gratitude to him for everything.”

Mysskin had mentioned in the press gathering that he came to know of this film through director Ram but did not believe that it was phenomenal. He added that his doubts became more after he got to know that director Vetrimaaran is releasing the film. He wanted to watch the film to decide. “I was proved wrong when I watched the movie. It felt like a tight slap on my face. I’ve always had a desire to make such movies but I still haven’t accomplished it. In fact, I went for the movie with a headache and as the film started, it gradually faded away. I couldn’t blink considering the number of emotional moments,” he said.

He added, “I can assure you that Baaram isn’t just a movie, but an enlightening piece of work, which will draw you close to your parents. While looking at the future, we all forget about our parents who raised us, including me. Baaram will be a life-changing experience for everyone. As a tribute to this film, I want to stick posters for this film in at least 20-30 places across Tamil Nadu.”

The National Award-winning film was released by Vetrimaaran’s home banner Grassroot Film Company. Priya, who is an alumnus of FTII Pune, has written and directed the movie and produced it herself under the Reckless Roses banner, with Ardra Swaroop. She holds the honour of being the first female director who has won the National Award in the Tamil film category.

Baaram features mostly first-time performers in an 85-strong cast. Some of the actors playing important roles include R Raju, Sugumar Shanmugam, SuPa Muthukumar, Jayalakshmi, and Stella Gobi. The other technical crew includes Ved Nair who is handling music and sound design, Jayanth Sethu Mathavan who is handling the camera, and Rakav Mirdath who is helping with dialogues and penning the additional screenplay.
