Reports say that Rajinikanth met director Siva at his house in Poes Garden and they have decided to go ahead with the project, and Thanu (who recently backed Rajinikanth-starrer Kabali) has agreed to produce the movie. Siva is known for his collaborations with Ajith Kumar, and last made Veeram, Vedalam and Viswasam.

Rajinikanth will reportedly begin work on the new film once Darbar wraps up.

While reports said that Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations will be producing the movie, the producer told Silverscreen that this is not the case and the news was wrong.

A source close to Rajinikanth also told Silverscreen that nothing can be confirmed about the actor’s next as yet. “No talks are on. These rumours begin spreading if Rajini sir meets a director for other reasons too. He usually does not think about his next film until the current one is complete.”

Meanwhile, the second schedule of Darbar is currently on in Mumbai with Nayanthara, director AR Murugadoss and others. Actor Sriman recently came on board, and many pictures of this were shared on social media.

Sriman said that he was working with Rajini for the first time, and collaborating with Murugadoss 19 years after his first film Dheena.

Videos of Rajini as a cop from the sets of the film at Vikhroli in Mumbai were also posted on social media.

Reports speculate that Rajinikanth has a dual role in the film – as father and son. Nayanthara plays the female lead, and it was earlier speculated that Keerthy Suresh may also star in the film. Yogi Babu, Nivetha Thomas, and Bollywood actors Pradeep Kabra, Prateik Babbar, Dalip Tahil and Jatin Sarna are part of the cast. Santosh Sivan is the cinematographer, music is by Anirudh Ravichander, editing by Sreekar Prasad. The film is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions.

Darbar began shoot in Mumbai on April 10, and is scheduled for a 2020 release.
