Popular Carnatic vocalist, S Sowmya makes her acting debut in James Vasanthan’s Vaanavil Vaazhkai. She plays the female lead’s mother. In an interview to The Times of India, James revealed that Sowmya was initially reluctant to accept the offer. However, when James reassured her that her character would be portrayed well, Sowmya agreed to join. James also added that he approached the singer because of her striking resemblance to Janani, who plays the lead.
Vaanavil Vaazhkai is James Vasanthan’s first directorial venture. The musical features an ensemble cast of debutants. A single track was launched recently.
