Venkat Prabhu’s new movie Maanadu, starring Simbu, will start shoot on the actor’s birthday on February 3, say reports. Produced by Suresh Kamatchi, the film will be a political thriller.
The first look poster of Maanadu was released yesterday by Venkat Prabhu. It reads, “Stand for what is right even if it means standing alone.” The director is best know for his films Goa, Saroja and Mankatha.

About Maanadu, Venkat Prabhu said in an interview, “It’s a long pending project. We have been talking about a possible collaboration for a long time now, but suddenly STR called me one day. I narrated his character along with the outline of the script. STR liked the idea and gave a nod. The movie will come as a different experience for STR. His fans will find his character in the film exciting.”
Venkat Prabhu also said that he was considering a summer release. “As a team, I think we will be able to pull it off and release our film for summer 2019.” There are reports that Keerthy Suresh might play the female lead, but nothing has been finalized yet.

Meanwhile, the director awaits the release of his new movie Party. The film has an ensemble cast headlined by Sathyaraj, Ramya Krishnan, Regina Cassandra, Shiva, Jai, Chandran among others.
Having starred in Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Simbu has Sunder C’s Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven gearing up for release. Starring Catherine Teresa and Megha Akash in the female lead, the movie is set to clash with Ajith’s Viswaasam and Rajinikanth’s Petta this Pongal.
The film began earlier this year, when Silambarasan and Sundar C travelled to Bulgaria to shoot the introduction song. “We had a fun time filming the sequence. STR is a talented dancer. And he’s really amazing in that song. There’s absolutely nothing he won’t try in order to entertain the audience. I guess that’s the result of the decades of experience he has in the industry,” Sundar C said.
