Friendship in Happy Days is realistically portrayed – just a group of middle-class friends in an engineering college in Hyderabad, who deal with relatable issues like ragging, exam pressures and failures.   This song showcases their closeness and special bond. With Dharmendra riding on a scooter and Amitabh Bachchan sitting in the sidecar, this song (which took 21 days to shoot) continues to resonate with modern-day audiences, for the chemistry between the duo, and for unabashedly warm lyrics like Tera gham mera gham teri jaan meri jaan.

‘Guddi’: A Film On Love, And The Love For Film

As Professor and art-historian Woodman Taylor observes in his essay, “Penetrating gazes”, her imagination of a union with Dharamendra on the lines of Mirabai’s poems is an appropriation of historic poetry to frame a love scene on the screen. “Mira’s poetry in praise of Krishna is normally sung in religious contexts during a religious, visual transaction of gazes called darshan, but Mirabai’s bhajan is used in the film to frame an imagined relationship on the screen, of Kusum longingly viewing the film image of Dharmendra.

Sholay director Ramesh Sippy is writing a book on the film remembered as Indian cinema’s quintessential blockbuster. In conversation with filmmaker Farah Khan at the Kala Ghoda festival in Mumbai on Wednesday, Sippy said, as reported by the Hindustan Times,
“It is very difficult to talk about Sholay, especially stuff that hasn’t been said before.  It has been 42 years since the film released, but the brouhaha is yet to die down.”
The 70-year-old filmmaker said the memory of the Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra classic was still fresh in people’s minds.
“When somebody asks me to talk about Sholay, it is not easy. So much has already been spoken about the film. But, I must also add that nobody tires talking about it, watching it or idolising it. Even after 42 years, the dialogues from the film are still relevant. I am now writing a book on the film. After that, I am hoping that all questions about the film will stop.”
According to Wikipedia, Sholay was rated one of the top 10 best Indian films by a British Film Institute poll in 2002. The film also starred Hema Malini, Amjad Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, and (then) Jaya Bhaduri.
