Cinemas across the country are marching towards normalcy as films like Thalaivii, Laabam, and Seetimaarr which released in the second week of September, are continuing their successful run in the theatres.
From no films at all, to three big-banner films, this week saw films like Gopichand’s SeetiMaarr, Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii, and Vijay Sethupathi’s Laabam, hit the big screens. Amidst all the cheer around an expected rise in the footfall in cinemas, Nani’s Tuck Jagadish slipped an OTT release, on Amazon Prime Video, thereby, adding to the competition, albeit differently.
Post the Tamil Nadu government announcement that cinema halls in the state could function with 50% capacity from August 23, theatre owners reopened their premises and started screening primarily non-Tamil films, such as Bell Bottom, Sridevi Soda Center, and Conjuring 3. They only got a lukewarm response to begin with and theatre owners are now awaiting new Tamil releases, which they hope will revive the big screens.
Actor Nani, who is awaiting the release of Tuck Jagadish, said that he will ban himself if his films do not get released in theatres after the situation becomes favourable for big-screen releases.
