The Nadigar Sangam Annual General Body Meeting was held at the Nadigar Sangam Ground after a last minute change in the venue. The meeting started at around 2 pm in the afternoon. The event was attended by thousands of members- from both cinema as well as theatre from different parts of Tamil Nadu. Veteran actors Saroja Devi, Vennira Aadai Moorthy and Vinu Chakravarthy, along with seven others, were honoured at the meeting.
Kamal Haasan could not turn up to the event, but addressed the members through a skype call, expressing his delight at the Sangam conducting an event at it’s own premises after a long time. Actors like Vikram, Vijay Sethupathi, Sivakarthikeyan, Vimal, Sathish and many other actors were among the attendees.
Meanwhile, the actual meeting was not short of drama. A fight broke out when a couple of members were not given entry to the venue, and two factions locked horns even amid tight security. The window pane of the car of Karunaas, MLA and Nadigar Sangam Vice President, was broken in the clash and his supporters allegedly hit back with vengeance. The police cleared the mob after a lathi charge and several people were arrested. There was a scuffle that broke out inside the venue too, when a few members were denied entry.
The most important announcement that came from the meeting was that former Nadigar Sangam president R. Sarathkumar and former general secretary Radha Ravi were permanently removed from the Nadigar Sangam.
