Case Filed against ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ for Showing Actors Drinking Alcohol in Court Scene

An FIR has been filed against the makers of The Kapil Sharma Show over an episode in which the cast is shown to be drinking alcohol while acting out a courtroom scene, India Today reported. The FIR has been filed against them in the district court of Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh.

The case will be heard on October 1.

According to the report, the lawyer who filed the complaint said, “The Kapil Sharma Show aired on Sony TV is very sloppy. In one of the episodes, a court was set up on the stage and the actors are seen drinking alcohol in public. This is contempt of court. That’s why I have demanded registration of FIR against the culprits under Section 356/3 in the court. Such display of sloppiness should be stopped.”

The lawyer further said the scene brought disgrace to the court.

The report states that the case was filed in reference to an episode that aired on January 19, 2020, and had a repeat telecast on April 24, 2021.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the lawyer also claimed that the comedy show has made offensive content in the past as well and shared lewd comments about women. He further claimed that he had earlier approached the Collector and Superintendent of Police to register a case against the show’s makers.

Hosted by comedian Kapil Sharma, the Hindi stand-up comedy and talk show also stars Sumona Chakravarti, Bharti Singh, Krushna Abhishek, Sudesh Lehri, and Archana Singh. Comedians Sudesh Lehri and Gaurav Gera have also been roped in to play quirky characters in the show.

The Kapil Sharma Show briefly went off air during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic but returned on August 21 after the birth of Sharma’s second child with his wife Ginni Chatrath.
