Gaalivaana, the upcoming web series starring veteran actors Radikaa Sarathkumar and Sai Kumar, is a thriller set in a coastal town, says its director Sharan Koppisetty.
The series is produced by BBC and Northstar Entertainments and is set to stream on ZEE5. Gaalivaana will mark the debut of Sai Kumar in the OTT space.
In conversation with Silverscreen India, director Koppisetty says, “Gaalivaana means a cyclone or tornado in Telugu. The web series is set against the backdrop of a coastal village in Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh. It revolves around two families – one is Radikaa’s and the other is Sai Kumar’s. They get involved in a murder case and the crime happens during a cyclonic night, hence the title. The series is essentially a murder mystery.”
Other cast members include Chandini Chowdary of Colour Photo fame, Chaitanya Krishna, Nandini Rai, Thagubothu Ramesh, and Ashritha Vemuganti. Chowdary and Chaitanya play Radikaa’s children, adds Kopisetty.
The series will comprise of six episodes, which will each run for about 40-45 minutes.
Gaalivaana went on floors in November and about 50% of the shooting has been completed. The filming is scheduled to be wrapped up by January 2022. The series is shot by cinematographer Sujatha Sidharth. Hyderabad and Amalapuram are the primary locations.
The filmmaker tells us that the series is expected to be released in March 2022.
Meanwhile, Koppisetty will once again be teaming up with actor Satya Dev for an upcoming Telugu film. The director reveals that the film, which marks their sophomore collaboration, will fall under the dark comedy genre. The actor-filmmaker duo previously collaborated on the investigative thriller Thimmarusu, which was released in theatres in mid-2021.
“The upcoming film is expected to go on floors sometime in March 2022. The script work has already been completed and the casting is underway,” says Koppisetty as he signs off.
