Making the Cut: Indian Designer Dushyant Asthana to Feature on Amazon Prime Video’s Fashion Competition

Indian designer Dushyant Asthana will feature in Amazon Prime Video’s second season of the show Making the Cut, the streaming platform announced on Thursday. The eight-episode fashion competition series will premiere on July 16.

This is the first time an Indian designer will be participating in the show that will be hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn.

Jaipur-based Asthana is the founder of the Dushyant label that sells handmade printed clothes globally and is currently situated, in Los Angeles, California. Dushyant earned his Bachelor’s in Engineering and, after moving to the United States, pursued a Master of Science from George Mason University.

A pool of 10 designers from 10 cities across the world will participate in the five-week challenge that will see an elimination every round.

Two episodes will release every week, leading to a final runway and the culmination of the show on August 6 when the winner will be awarded $1 million to invest in their business, the opportunity to sell a collection in Amazon Fashion’s store, and a mentorship with Amazon Fashion.

Other competitors include Ally Ferguson from Los Angeles, California, Andrea Pitter from Brooklyn, New York, Andrea Salazar from Medellin, Colombia, Gary Graham from Franklin, New York, Joshua Scacheri from London, Lendrell Martin from South Orange, New Jersey, Lucie Brochard from Paris, Olivia OBlanc from New Orleans, Louisiana, and Raf Swiader from Sosnowiec, Poland.

The first season was held in March and saw Jonny Cota from Los Angeles, California, emerge as the winner. It was adjudged by supermodel Naomi Campbell along with others.

The second season will see supermodel Winnie Harlow and Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott, and guest judges, including award-winning fashion designer and activist Prabal Gurung and costume designer and celebrity stylist Shiona Turini.

The series is executive produced by Klum, Gunn, Sara Rea, Page Feldman, and Jennifer Love and is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon Studios.
