‘Minnal Murali’, ‘Atrangi Re’ & More: 7 New OTT Releases This Week

With Christmas just around the corner, several new films are lined up for release in both theatres and on OTT platforms. Actor Ranveer Singh‘s 83 will hit the big screens on Friday and get the ball rolling.

Several movies that already released in theatres are also set to make their streaming debuts. These include actor Silambarasan TR‘s Maanaadu, which will stream on SonyLIV from Friday, Salman Khan-starrer Antim: The Final Truth, also premiering on Friday on ZEE5, and actor John Abraham‘s Satyameva Jayate 2, which arrives on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday.

Also this week, several new films are set to premiere directly on OTT platforms, including Atrangi Re and Minnal Murali.

Here’s a list of seven new films and shows releasing on OTT platforms this week.

1. Atrangi Re (December 24) – Disney+ Hotstar

Starring Dhanush, Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan, Atrangi Re revolves around a love triangle between Rinku, Vishu, and Sajjad. Rinku gets forcibly married to an already-engaged Vishu. Their relationship gets further complicated when Rinku’s lover Sajjad shows up.

 

2. Minnal Murali (December 24) – Netflix

In Minnal Murali, a tailor finds himself with special powers after being struck by lightning. He must soon take down an unexpected foe if he is to become the superhero his hometown needs.

 

3. Encanto (December 24) – Disney+ Hotstar

This Disney film tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Each child is blessed with a magic gift unique to them, except Mirabel. But when the family’s home is threatened, Mirabel may be their only hope.

 

4. Don’t Look Up (December 24) – Netflix

In the star-studded Netflix film Don’t Look Up, two astronomers need to go on a media tour to warn humankind of a planet-killing comet hurtling toward Earth. However, the world remains indifferent. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Timothee Chalamet, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Scott Mescudi, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep, along with American pop-singer Ariana Grande.

 

5. WWW (December 24) – SonyLiv

When Vishwa’s girlfriend is taken hostage during the national Covid-19 lockdown, he helplessly sees it unfold on a video call. Vishwa is soon forced to save her life from a distance.

 

6. Being The Ricardos (December 21) – Amazon Prime Video

In this biopic, Hollywood couple Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem) are riddled with shocking personal accusations, a political smear, and cultural taboos. Together, they face personal and professional obstacles that threaten their careers, their relationship, and their hit television show, I Love Lucy.

 

7. Yearly Departed (December 23) – Amazon Prime Video

Hosted by Phoebe Robinson, this comedy special features seven outspoken female comedians who lay to rest the year that never seemed to end.
