‘Modern Love: Mumbai’ Starring Naseeruddin Shah, Masaba Gupta to Release on May 13

The Indian adaptation of Modern Love, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Masaba Gupta, Chitrangada Singh and Arshad Warsi, among others, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on May 13.

Modern Love is an American romantic comedy anthology series developed by John Carney, based on the weekly column of the same name published by The New York Times. It premiered on Amazon Prime Video in October 2019.

The Indian spin-off was first announced in January. Three upcoming adaptations, with the same title, will be released in three different languages: Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The first of these, set in Mumbai and titled Modern Love: Mumbai, is releasing on May 13. This will be followed by Modern Love: Chennai and Modern Love: Hyderabad.

The series will feature stories that deal with topics ranging from love and romance to self-love, familial love, love towards ones’ friends, and love that emerges out of kindness, as per the press release issued by the streaming platform.

Daniel Jones, editor of Modern Love at The New York Times, said, “India is a country where love in its various forms is at the centre of its cultural fabric. It is exciting and an honour to see these stories of love being adapted for the Indian versions of the show. These Indian adaptions are in our own way, a little love letter to India, as well as a testament to the universal appeal of love as an emotion.”

The upcoming Hindi anthology includes six stories: Raat Rani directed by Shonali BoseBaai helmed by Hansal MehtaMumbai Dragon by Vishal Bhardwaj, Alankrita Shrivastava‘s My Beautiful WrinklesI Love Thane helmed by Dhruv Sehgal, and Cutting Chai directed by Nupur Asthana.

While Raat Rani features Fatima Sana Shaikh, Bhupendra Jadawat and Dilip Prabhavalkar, Baai stars Tanuja, Pratik Gandhi and Ranveer Brar.

Mumbai Dragon is led by Yeo Yann Yann, Meiyang Chang, Wamiqa Gabbi and Naseeruddin Shah, and My Beautiful Wrinkles features Sarika, Danesh Razvi, Ahsaas Channa and Tanvi Azmi.

I Love Thane stars Masaba Gupta, Ritwik Bhowmik, Prateik Babbar, Aadar Malik and Dolly Singh, while Chitrangda Singh and Arshad Warsi will be seen in Cutting Chai.
