After announcing his retirement from all forms of international cricket in August, former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has plans of entering the entertainment arena.
Dhoni and his wife Sakshi Singh Dhoni are set to explore production with over six projects, including an untitled web series.
Dhoni Entertainment, a production company founded by Dhoni, will be bankrolling the mythological, sci-fi web series. Sakshi, managing director of Dhoni Entertainment, called the series a “thrilling adventure”.
In an interview with Mid-Day, Sakshi had said that the series will be based on a book. Set in a high-tech facility on a remote island, the series will explore the journey of a mysterious ‘aghori’, she said.
According to Pinkvilla, the web series is adapted from Akshat Gupta’s The Hidden Hindu. The web series is expected to become India’s most expensive one.
According to Sakshi, the series is in the developmental stage and the creative team will soon decide on a director and a cast.
Dhoni Entertainment produced their debut project Roar of the Lion, a documentary series, in 2019. Directed by Kabir Khan, it documented the return of the Chennai Super Kings team to the Indian Premier League after a two-year suspension. The series is available on Disney+ Hotstar.
In an interview with PTI, Khan said that the series concentrates on what the two years of suspension did to Dhoni and the other cricketers.
Dhoni is leading Chennai Super Kings at the ongoing IPL in the UAE. According to Sakshi, Dhoni will be involved partially with the production, while she will be dealing with the day-to-day running of the company.
