While Marvel Studios has not revealed details about his character, a clip shared on their Twitter handle showed Kapur reading a newspaper at presumably the breakfast table (1:09), as star Kamala Khan (who plays Ms Marvel) walks past. Kapur’s Twitter activity also appeared to confirm that he would in fact play Ms Marvel’s father.
The Ms Marvel character was first introduced in 2013 in a Captain Marvel comic issue. It was then launched as an independent series the following year. The official Marvel website describes the character as a “16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, Kamala has a special affinity for Super Heroes, particularly Captain Marvel”.
According to a report in filminformation.com, the series is currently being shot in Atlanta and has already wrapped up its first episode. The six-episode series is scheduled to be completed by March or early April.
Kapur told the website that he was impressed with the Covid-19 protocols in place. “We have to undergo Covid tests thrice a week till as long as we are shooting,” he said.
The episodes will be helmed by different directors, according to the report.
Kapur was last seen in the Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt film Sadak 2 as Commissioner Rajesh Puri. He is also known for his performance in Saanp Seedhi, Jolly LLB and Mission Mangal. The actor has also dubbed for the Hindi versions of some English films, most recently Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, in which Kapur voiced the character Dr Stephen Strange.
Earlier this week, Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige announced that Canadian actress Iman Vellani would star as Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel in the series.
Apart from Kapur and Vellani, the cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.
Ms Marvel will release on Disney+ in 2021.
