Navarasa, a nine-film Tamil anthology presented by Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Pachapakesan, will soon premiere on Netflix, the streaming service announced on Wednesday. The anthology is based on the nine rasas (emotions) – anger, compassion, courage, disgust, fear, laughter, love, peace and wonder.
According to the makers, all the people working on the films will be offering their services pro-bono, and proceeds from the project will go towards the welfare of the Tamil film industry workers who have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The intent of the Tamil film industry coming together is to showcase a sign of solidarity and support the industry during this trying time.
The anthology will bring together nine directors- Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, KV Anand, Ponram, Rathindran Prasad and Halitha Shameem– who will showcase each of the nine emotions in the form of nine short films.
It will feature a line up of over 40 actors –Revathy, Aishwarya Rajesh, Nithya Menen, Poorna, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Prakash Raj, Saravanan, Gautham Karthik, Ashok Selvan, Robo Shankar, Siddharth and a few others.
Music directors like AR Rahman, D Imman, Ghibran, Justin Prabhakaran, Aruldev will be composing music, while cinematographers Santosh Sivan, Manoj Paramhamsa, Sujith Sarang, and others will be in charge of cinematography.
The anthology will be launched on Netflix across 190 countries.

The project is being produced under the banner of Justickets, in association with AP International and Wide Angle Creations as executive producers.
This will be Netflix’s second Tamil anthology project, after Paava Kadhaigal, which was announced earlier this month. Apart from this, the OTT giant also has an upcoming Telugu anthology, which will be made on the theme of love. Krish Jagarlamudi, Shiva Nirvana, Nandini Reddy, and Ajay Bhupathi have been signed for this project.
