Shabana Azmi’s Kaali Khuhi to Premiere on Netflix on Halloween

Netflix dropped the teaser of horror-thriller Kaali Khuhi, starring Shabana Azmi, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Satyadeep Mishra, Leela Samson and Riva Arora in pivotal roles, which will release on October 30.


Directed by Terrie Samundran, the film has been billed as a peek into Punjab’s history of female infanticide. The film tells the story of 10-year-old Shivangi, played by Riva Arora, who is haunted by a young girl. The 30-second-long teaser comes packed with a daunting background score.

The 30-second-long teaser for Kaali Khuhi (meaning black well in Hindi) shows us a deep dark well with an ominous undertone.

Anku Pande and Ramon Chibb have co-produced the film while Samundra has penned the screenplay along with David Walter Lech. Rupinder Inderjit has penned dialogues.

Besides Kaali Khuhi, Netflix has lined up a number of horror releases for Halloween, including Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, The Haunting of Bly Manor, His House and horror-comedy Hubie Halloween.

Five-time National Award winner and veteran actor Azmi was last seen in Neerja in 2016 and in Sonata, adapted and directed by Aparna Sen, co-starring Lilette Dubey and the director herself.


Arora has appeared in films such as Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020), and Bharat (2019). Leela Samson, who is also starring in Amazon Prime’s Putham Pudhu Kaalaiwill be seen in Kaali Khuhi in a pivotal role. The movie also stars popular television actor Sanjeeda Sheikh in an important role. Sheikh was last seen in the small screen in Kumkum Bhagya and will also be seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s Taish, which will stream on Zee5.
