Amazon Prime Video released the trailer of Saif Ali Khan‘s upcoming web series, Tandav, on Monday. The nine-episode-long series also stars Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub. Ali Abbas Zafar (Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai) will direct the series.
A political drama, Tandav stars Saif Ali Khan as political leader Samar Pratap, a man who aspires to become the prime minister of India. Dhulia plays Khan’s father and current prime minister, Devki Nandan. Nandan, judging by the trailer, is a man who isn’t ready to retire just yet.
The series’ synopsis described Tandav as a drama that “ensues as a series of events expose the inherent deceit, manipulation, greed, ambition, and violence in all the relationships”.
In a press release, Khan described his character as a “grey” character. He said, “The entertainment industry in India is going through a renaissance and stories like Tandav are at the forefront of this change. As an actor, for me, a good piece of dramatic writing and a compelling creation featuring grey characters is always exciting. As I read about the complexities of my character Samar and dived deeper into the world of Tandav, I knew that I had to play this character.”
Kapadia was last seen in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. She will make her digital debut with this series as the character Anuradha. Kapadia said, “It is a fiction that perhaps gives you a vivid insight into backroom politicking and what goes on in the country’s power corridors. Anuradha is the kind of character that I have never played before.”

Grover, who is also a stand-up comedian, said he had never played such a character before. Describing his character as “multi-layered”, he said, “Having worked with Ali earlier, I knew that Tandav will be a compelling storyline that is edgy yet entertaining. Ali has created a world that is gripping and given my character the depth that an actor longs for.”
The series is produced by Himanshu Kishan Mehra and Zafar and written by Gaurav Solanki. The series also features Dino Morea, Kumud Mishra, Gauahar Khan, Amyra Dastur, Kritika Kamra, Sarah Jane Dias, Sandhya Mridul, Annup Sonii, Hitten Ttejwani, Paresh Pahuja, and Shonali Nagrani, among others.
Tandav releases on Amazon Prime Video on January 15.
