What’s New This Week: 8 Films and Series Releasing on OTT Platforms This Week

The Centre last week announced the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 for regulating content on OTT platforms. Following the Tandav controversy and the newly-introduced rule, content on OTT platforms may change drastically in the future.

Despite the setback, several films are being announced by streaming platforms. On Wednesday, Netflix unveiled a line-up of 41 original series, movies, documentaries, and stand-up comedies as their 2021 slate.

On that note, here are eight films and series releasing on OTT platforms this week from March 4 to March 11.

1. Coming 2 America – Amazon Prime Video (March 5)

Sequel to the 1988 comedy film Coming to America, Coming 2 America is set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda. The newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) need to embark on an all-new hilarious adventure from their African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.

2. Sentinelle – Netflix (March 5)

Sentinelle is a French film that tells the story of a highly trained soldier. After she is transferred home due to a traumatising combat mission, she has to use her lethal skills to hunt down the man who hurt her sister.

3. Splitsvilla X3 – Voot Select (March 5)

Shot in Poovar Islands in Kerala, MTV’s Splitsvilla X3, a reality TV show, will have nine boys and 12 girls embark upon their ultimate journey to search for love in two different villas. The show, hosted by Sunny Leone and Rannvijay Singha, will be available on Voot Select 24 hours before it airs on TV.

4. Sita On The Road – ZeePlex (March 5)

Narrating the story of five women, Sita On The Road features, Kalpika Ganesh, Khatera Hakimi, Gayatri Gupta, Nesa Farhadi, and Uma Lingaiah. The film portrays the struggles that women face on a day-to-day basis and draws from the concept of Sita in Ramayan, who jumped into the fire to prove her chastity.

5. Pacific Rim: The Black –Netflix (March 4)

Pacific Rim: The Black is an American anime-style series, based on the first two live-action Pacific Rim films. Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of the entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.

6. Pokémon Journeys Season 4 – Netflix (March 5)

Pokémon Journeys is the latest series in the Pokémon franchise. This new series focuses on the two protagonists Ash Ketchum and Goh, along with their partners Pikachu and Cinderace.

7. Bombay Begums – Netflix (March 8)

In Bombay Begums, five women find themselves racing and facing obstacles threatening to pull them down. Each unique personality must fight against her roadblocks to emerge victorious. The story follows the lives of the five women living and hustling in Mumbai as they break societal shackles and glass ceilings to conquer love, careers and relationships by standing up for each other.

8. Bombay Rose – Netflix (March 8)

Based on Gitanjali Rao’s animated short, True Love Story, Bombay Rose is an Indian animated series set amidst the bustle of a magnetic and multifaceted city. It captures the budding love between two dreamers.
