What’s New This Week: 8 Films and Shows Releasing on Streaming Platforms This Week

With the number of Covid-19 cases in India rising exponentially, some filmmakers have decided to postpone the release of their films. The release of actor-director Sasikumar’s MGR Magan, and the Telugu film Ishq, both of which were to have released on Friday, have been postponed. Films, including Kho Kho and Krishna Talkies have been withdrawn from theatres owing to the surging Covid-19 cases.

In Telangana, theatres and cinema halls in the state are to be shut down due to the lack of new film releases.

It is time that we stay indoors and practice safety protocols. Here are eight films and shows releasing on streaming platforms this week to binge watch:

1. Searching For Sheela (April 22) Netflix

Searching For Sheela is a raw and authentic docu-film that explores Osho’s controversial ex-secretary, Ma Anand Sheela’s journey through India after 34 long years. It sheds light on her new life post serving time for her alleged crimes.

2. Life in Colour With David Attenborough (April 22) Netflix

Presented by David Attenborough, this docuseries explores nature from a fresh perspective as animals use colour to survive and thrive in the wild.

3. Kathmandu Connection (April 23) SonyLiv

Kathmandu Connection is a crime drama that revolves around the incidents that took place in 1993, a few months after a series of blasts in Mumbai. The drama revoves around three different investigations, including the murder of an officer, kidnapping of a businessman, and stalking of a reporter.

4. Shadow and Bone (April 23) Netflix

An adaptation of two books by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow of Bones and Six Of Crows, Shadow and Bone is set in a world cleaved into two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness. A young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country, but as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her.

5. His Storyy (April 25) AltBalaji

His Storyy focuses on the relationship between Kunal and Preet. Their affair, however, jeopardises the core of Kunal and Sakshi’s marriage. While Kunal loves Sakshi, his heart belongs to Preet.

6. Stowaway (April 22) Netflix

Stowaway revolves around a mission headed to Mars, where an unintended stowaway accidentally causes severe damage to the spaceship’s life support systems. Facing dwindling resources and a potentially grim outcome, a medical researcher emerges as the only dissenting voice against the clinical logic of both her commander and the ship’s biologist.

7. Mare of Easttown (April 19) Disney+ Hotstar

Starring Kate Winslet, Mare of Easttown follows the story of Mare Sheehan, a small-town Pennsylvania detective. As her life crumbles around her, she investigates a local murder. The series explores the dark side of a close community and provides an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present.

8. Homunclus (April 22) Netflix

Based on Hideo Yamamoto’s manga of the same name, Homunclus is a Japanese film about a homeless amnesiac who awakens from an experimental medical procedure. Truth and illusion begins to blur when he gets the ability to see people’s innermost traumas.
