What’s New This Week: 9 Movies and Shows Releasing on OTT Platforms This Week

With Pongal/Makar Sankranti coming up, many filmmakers have opted for a theatrical release for their films. Big budget films including Master, Krack, Red, Alludu Adhurs and Eeswaran released on the big screen.

At the same time, many films and shows are releasing on OTT platforms this week. Here are nine movies and shows to binge on that are releasing on OTT platforms from January 14 to January 20.

1. Bhoomi – Disney+ Hotstar (January 14)
Actor Jayam Ravi’s Bhoomi is the first Tamil film to directly release on an OTT platform, after actor  Suriya‘s Soorarai Pottru. Bhoomi is a story about NASA astronaut, Bhoominathan, who has a pressing mission back at his native village before he steps on Mars. Bhoominathan has to lead the people of his village against builders and politicians who are trying to exploit them.

2. Tandav – Amazon Prime Video (January 15)
Tandav revolves around the coming together of different worlds under the gamut of politics. A race for power begins after the death of India’s prime minister. While it seems that the prime minister’s son Samar Pratap Singh (Saif Ali Khan) will be next in line, nothing is set in stone.

3. Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy – Netflix (January 15)
The film- starring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar- is about a dysfunctional family. When her estranged mother slips into a coma, Anuradha (Kajol) – a single mother – has to grapple with regret and resentment while reflecting on their strained relationship.

4. WandaVision – Disney+ Hotstar (January 15)
WandaVision is Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first original series that follows Wanda Maximoff and Vision as they live a happy life in a suburban American setting. However, when Wanda gets to know that Vision is supposed to be dead after the events of Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, she realises that her existence may be far from reality.

5. Outside The Wire – Netflix (January 15)
Starring Anthony Mackie (Falcon from Avengers), Damson Idris and Emily Beecham, Outside The Wire is about a drone pilot who is sent into a war zone in the near future. He finds himself paired with a top-secret Android officer on a mission to stop a nuclear attack.

6. Double Dad – Netflix (January 15)
Double Dad is about an 18-year-old girl who sneaks out of the hippie commune where she lives and embarks on a life-changing adventure to discover who her father is.

7. Gullak Season 2 – SonyLiv (January 15)
Set in the quaint bylanes of India, Gullak is a collection of disarming and relatable tales of the Mishra family – Santosh and Shanti along with their sons Annu and Amman.

8. Bling Empire – Netflix (January 15)
Bling Empire is a reality series set in Los Angeles, California, and captures the lives of the wildly wealthy Asian and Asian American fun seekers as they go all out with fabulous parties, glamour and drama.

9. One Night in Miami – Amazon Prime Video (January 15)
After releasing in select theatres, One Night in Miami will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 15. The story revolves around the night of February 25, 1964, in Miami, when Cassius Clay joins Jim Brown, Sam Cooke and Malcom X, and they discuss the responsibility of being successful black men during the civil rights movement.
