Actress Kalpana Ranjani Passes Away At Hyderabad

National award-winning south Indian actress Kalpana Ranjani passed away at a private hotel in Hyderabad on Monday morning. She was 51, and is survived by her 16-year-old daughter, Srimayi.

According to a Newsminute report, the actress had reached Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon for shooting a bi-lingual film (Tamil and Telugu). On Monday morning, she was found lying motionless in her hotel suite, and was rushed to Apollo Hospital, where the doctors confirmed that she was ‘brought dead’. Reportedly, actress Oorvasi, Kalpana’s sister, is on her way to Hyderabad.

An Indian Express report said that the actress was supposed to attend the ongoing IIFA Utsavam on Monday. She had dubbed for actress Archana in Vaigai Express last week. Actresses Khushbhu, Priya Mani and Radhika Sarathkumar have expressed their condolences on Twitter.

Kalapana’s acting career began in 1983, when she appeared in Manju as a child actress. She acted in 300-odd films in all South Indian languages. In 2012, she had won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance. Her notable Tamil films include Kamal Haasan starrer, Sathi Leelavathi, Dumm Dumm Dumm and Kaaki Sattai.  Her last film was the Martin Prakkat’s Charlie, in which she played Queen Mary, an AIDS patient.
