Annanukku Jey Explores The Issue Of Herd Mentality: Dinesh

Dinesh At The Ulkuthu Press Meet

Dinesh’s latest film, Annanukku Jey, will be a reflection of the political scene of the 21st Century. “Herd mentality is everywhere. And it’s most prevalent in governance. The film addresses this issue, but in a comic way,” he told Silverscreen.

After a slew of dramatic roles, Annanukku Jey came as a breath of fresh air for the actor.

Visaranai took a toll on me, emotionally and physically. Cuckoo was also challenging. I wanted to let things be for some time. When the director narrated the story of Annanukku Jey, I was only too happy to come on-board,” he added.

But that doesn’t mean Dinesh takes on every role that comes his way. “I only take up projects that appeal to me. If there’s no connect between the artist and the script, how can he bring it alive on-screen? It’s just not possible.”

The actor says that he makes it a point to stay out of the limelight when he’s not promoting films. “Social media is trouble. I am rarely active. I want to interact with people who appreciate my films, but I want to do it on a platform that is stable.”

Attakathi launched him in the world of Tamil cinema and people still remember him for it. “I have done so many films after that, but they still remember me as Route Thala. I am happy that Ranjith sir gave me such a career-defining role.”

Films like Attakathi and Visaaranai are rare, Dinesh admits. “But once you choose to be open to everything, the right things come your way. I believe strongly in this and I guess that is what has sustained me so far.”

That said, Dinesh wants to tell unique stories within the sphere of a commercial format. “It’s a challenge to explore edgy scripts within the commercial format. I have some ideas, let’s see.”
