The Madras High Court, on Friday, ordered a stay on the release of Natpuna Ennanu Theriyuma till July 30, a film directed by debutant Shivakumar and bankrolled by Libra Productions.

Seeking a stay on the film’s release, distributor Malaysia Pandian, who is the proprietor of PSP AV International, had filed a petition on July 12 against C. Ravindar Chandershekaran of Libra Productions, Real Image Technologies, UFO Moviez India, Prasad Xtreame Digital Cinema Network and QUBE Cinema.

As reported in Daily Thanthi, Pandian claimed in the petition that he had bought the overseas screening rights from Ravindar and signed an agreement by paying over Rs. 25 lakhs. When the film failed to release on the scheduled date (March 1), Pandian asked Ravindar to return the money. He later lodged a complaint with the producers council and the police.

Ravindar told Silverscreen that the film was delayed because of the producers council’s indefinite strike. It’s because of the delay that the distributor demanded Rs 5 lakhs as penalty. “I have the support of the producers’ council and planning to get the stay vacated. But Pandian doesn’t want to compromise as his intention is to stop the film from releasing. The union members tried to make him understand, but he is egoistic. We don’t have any personal enmity,” he said.

After Friday’s order, Ravindar posted a detailed note on Facebook. He wrote: “It is called as end of era.. if anything goes wrong.. Mr. Pandian you are soul responsible for not only my money loss.. 4 creative people dreams and life to achieve success (sic).”

Natpuna Ennanu Theriyuma is a romantic comedy starring Kavin, Remya Nambeesan, Arunraja Kamaraj and Raju in the lead roles. The film was launched in September 2017 with the title inspired from Thalapathi. After the strike was called off, the film was slated to release on July 20, but it got further postponed to July 27.
