Idhu Namma Aalu Release Caught Between ‘Unnecessary’ Folk Song And Unpaid Actress

Idhu Namma Aalu, which began production in 2013, has run into another delay revolving around the shooting of one pending song for which lead actress Nayanthara has reportedly been unable to give further dates. While some reports suggest that Nayanthara has refused to allot dates for the song sequence as well as two important scenes unless her salary of Rs.50 lakhs is paid, director Pandiraj and other sources have stated that the actress only wants the film to be released, and has even said she doesn’t want the money anymore.

Speaking to TOI, Pandiraj said that the film was ready for release, but lead actor Simbu and producer T Rajendran wanted a kuthu (folk) song to be shot, similar to ‘Yammadi Aathadi’, featuring Simbu, Kuralarasan and Nayanthara. According to him, Nayanthara had given them dates eight times in the past for the song, but each time the dates had to be cancelled as the song wasn’t ready. He further said that “even though her payment is outstanding, [she] hasn’t even asked for it.”

However, according to sources, STR and T Rajendar have approached Nadigar Sangam to intervene in the issue. But no headway could be made as Nayanthara reportedly insisted on being paid her salary. STR expects the film to be released in October or November.

Earlier, director Pandiraj has been unhappy with the delays in completing the audio, which is being handled by STR’s brother Kuralarasan. Once scheduled to release in December 2014, Idhu Namma Aalu appears to be following in the footsteps of STR and T Rajendar’s Vaalu, which had also faced several release delays.
