In response to speculations that the movie was about the LTTE leader Sathasivam Krishnakumar alias Kittu,  a former military commander of LTTE, Suseenthiran said that the film was not about Kittu or the Sri Lankan war, but about a brave man who fought for the rights of Tamils during the 1980s. He said that the real-life event only forms the backdrop of the film. He has used his creative license to add fictional details and change the names of characters. He also added that the movie touches upon issues of caste, which he has dealt with in his earlier movies.

Speaking about Vishnu Vishal and Sri Divya, he said that the movie has an emotional love angle to it, which is definitely the “highlight of the film”. Vishnu Vishal dons a new look for the movie.

This is Suseenthiran’s third film with Vishnu Vishal after Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu (2009) and Jeeva (2014). “I think and believe that this will be our best film so far. Suseethiran has come up with a meaningful script yet again. Working with experienced actors like Parthiepan will be a great learning experience,” Vishnu told Silverscreen.

Suseenthiran had earlier planned a film with Udhaynidhi Stalin and Vishnu Vishal together, but since that project got stalled, the director came up with this project. Suseenthiran and Vishnu entered the industry together with the film Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu.

The shooting for the movie has commenced this month in Pazhani and the first look was released on Twitter.
