Pushpavalli-Rekha Sequence Chopped Off From Mahanati

Nadigaiyar Thilagam Movie Stills Starring Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salman

It’s not uncommon for several key scenes to be chopped off a film once it lands on the editing table. In a bid to keep the film short and crisp, the editor “mercilessly” convinces a director to let go of a scene despite it being wonderfully shot. Well, that surely happened to the latest sensational release Mahanati. It is obvious that it would happen since the life of actress Savitri was so eventful that it would not be possible to include everything.

And in that regard, a very key episode that features the character Pushpavalli (often cited as the second wife of Gemini Ganesan) and her daughter Bhanurekha (B-Town’s legendary actress Rekha) had to be chopped off.

The role of Pushpavalli was essayed by Telugu character artiste Bindu Chandramouli who put up a post on Facebook saying she felt “heartbroken” because despite being part of such an epic film, people did not get to see her in it.

“It’s very disappointing to have known that the makers have decided to cut out the character of Pushpavalli (after dubbing) and also the appearance of the character of her young daughter Rekha. (sic),” she wrote.

She also added that she understood that it was a creative decision and that she would cherish the experience nevertheless. “This had happened in earlier movies to me but somehow it’s more disappointing this time around. I had the wonderful opportunity of portraying a real-life character even if it was for one scene and a couple song montages with the Savithri character. The songs and the scenes have not made it to the cinema. (sic).”

Bindu also shared exclusive stills from the film in which she is seen sharing screen space with Dulquer Salmaan.
