Glorifying the Tamil culture, Karuppan starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, promises a lot of action. It is directed by R. Panneerselvam and produced by Shri Sai Raam Creations.
The trailer shows — a hero who is the epitome of what Tamil cinema defines as masculinity; and a heroine who doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. Also, a crazed man for a villain. Along with some bulls for company.
Karuppan’s music (by D Imman) is loud and flashy — much like its male lead. Donning mirrored sunglasses, with a penchant for bull-taming, the film’s hero attracts trouble wherever he goes. Or so the film suggests.
There’s plenty of action, emotions at play here, along with a heavy dose of ‘Tamil culture glorification’ that has assailed the film industry, in the wake of the Jallikattu protests. As the first in a series of films based on the age-old Tamil sport, the novelty factor alone will ensure that the film gets a solid run with the audience. And if that doesn’t work, Vijay Sethupathi will pull them all in.
