Ada Puthiyathu Piranthathu is our Bhogi special song of the day, one of Ilaiyaraaja’s hits sung by Malaysia Vasudevan, with lyrics by Vaali.

The song was shot in Pollachi where the film’s story is based – a village divided in two because of a fight between caste head Periyathevar (Sivaji Ganesan) and his nephew Mayathevar (Naseer). All of the village affected by the family fight comes together when things mend, it makes all their lives better.

The song comes about an hour and a half into the film, when Naseer is angry that his pride is being proven wrong. Periyathevar’s son Sakthivel (Kamal Haasan) and the others in the village are rejoicing that they are doing well. The song is the hopeful message that Bhogi gives us – old, unwanted things, including our own foolishness are not burden anymore. They leave and a new day arrives.
