Today is Nizhalgal Ravi’s birthday. As a tribute, our song of the day is the super hit ‘Dhoorathil Naan Kanda Un Mugam’ from Nizhalgal, the Bharathiraja directorial which introduced Nizhalgal Ravi. This song features him and Raadhu as neighbours who see each other from afar and don’t speak about their love till the end. Composed by Ilaiyaraaja, this song was considered one S Janaki’s best renditions. She won the National Award for the Telugu version in Sithaara.
Nizhalgal Ravi, who gets the suffix to his name from this film, played the role of an aspiring hero in love, and his performance in the film brought him a lot of fame. When he signed up for this film in 1980, he had just graduated and moved to Chennai from Coimbatore to enter Tamil cinema as a dubbing artist. He later acted in many movies between 1988 to 1992, and in serials like Parisukku Pogalam and Rail Sneham. He also became one of the best dubbing artistes in south Indian cinema.
