Happy birthday, Nithya Menen! Our song of the day is ‘Mazhai Varum Arikuri’ from the 2011 film Veppam. This was one of Nithya Menen’s early films, and released soon after her Tamil debut 180. She became popular with Nandini Reddy’s Telugu film Ala Modalaindi, and went on to act in over 50 films in the south.
Veppam stars Nithya Menen, Nani, Karthik Kumar as friends who grow up in the same neighbourhood. This song features Nithya and Nani’s love story, and is sung by Suzanne. It became one of Joshua Sridhar’s most successful compositions, and although the song wasn’t new there was simplicity in its execution which made it attractive. Similar to Joshua’s debut album Kaadhal.
