Happy birthday, SJ Suryah! Our song of the day is ‘Mottu Onru’ from Kushi, SJ Suryah’s second film as a director after Vaali. Starring Vijay and Jyotika who meet at college and fall in love, the film was a light romance, with music composed by Deva. This song was one of the chartbusters of the year when it released in 2000, and is said to be inspired by Michael Jackson’s ‘Why You Wanna Trip On Me’. It’s a breezy song shot abroad, and opens to Vijay bungee jumping.

SJ Suryah remade the film in Hindi and Telugu, which were also huge hits. Vijay and Jyotika went on to pair for a second time in Thirumalai. SJ Suryah worked as a writer, director, actor and music composer for many films including Kalvanin Kadhali, Thirumagan, Mersal and Monster.
