Happy birthday, Karthik Raja! Our song of the day is ‘Ragasiyamai’ from the 2001 film Dum Dum Dum, an all-time favourite Karthik Raja composition. The violin portions and the percussions are a stand out. The song is set to lyrics by Na Muthukumar. Madhavan and Jyotika play characters who don’t agree with their parents’ decision to get them married, and later meet in Chennai and fall in love.
Karthik Raja collaborated with Mani Ratnam for this film, and also composed ‘Unn Perai Sonnale’ from the album. He made his debut with Pandiyan in 1992 and some of his popular songs are ‘Pandiyanin Rajiyathil’ ‘Veesum Kaatru’, ‘Para Para Kili’, ‘Kaasumela’ and the Hindi album Grahan.
