Our song for the day is ‘Thanga Sela’ from Pa Ranjith’s Kaala, the film with nine popular songs, a mix of rap, melodies and kuthu, composed by Santhosh Narayanan. ‘Thanga Sela’ is a light-hearted song with a kuthu and qawali mix. Santhosh uses layers of instruments, to highlight Rajinikanth and Easwari Rao’s romance. “Ottha thala raavanan pacha pulla aaguren, kakkathula thookika variya,” he asks the woman who has stood by him through the years. The lyrics are by Arunraja Kamaraj, and sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Pradeep Kumar and Ananthu.
Santhosh Narayanan started his career with Attakathi in 2012, and later worked on Jigarthanda, Madras, Meyaadha Mann. He has collaborated with Ranjith on Madras, Kabali, Kaala and Pariyerum Perumal.
