Theri Teaser & Review

RedditWhatsapp

A police jeep screeches to a halt, as the cop lands his feet on the ground, dust and leaves rustle up. Vijay’s introduction in the Theri teaser is done in the most typical Kollywood way. Albeit 25 years old, this cliched scene will leave his huge fan following more than delighted. Vijay plays the cop, who also likes to say children’s rhymes. We see him saying ‘Twinkle Twinle little star’ in a curious English accent. This also reminds us of the way Sivaji Ganesan said the lines in one of his memorable films Thanga Pathakkam (1974). Here’s an excerpt :

The BGM has blaring trumpets, and we also get to see a long haired Vijay (Is he doing a dual role, or is it triple, as the posters suggest?) playing around with baby Nainika, making up for some adorable shots.

More jeeps, more thuds of feet on the ground, accompanied by rain. Vijay bashes up the baddies in style inside an abandoned factory. (Because Tamil cinema cannot live without this one location). We don’t get to see any of the other actors, not even the heroines in this teaser, but Motta Rajendran has his 4 seconds, as he says Vijay’s famous punchline ‘I am waiting’ in his trademark hoarse voice.

The BGM then becomes a tune that is far too reminiscent of ‘What A Karuvaad’ from Velaiyilla Pattadhari. We get to see some colorful, grand, Shankar-esque visuals from the songs in the film. (Atlee proved to be Shankar’s disciple with the way the songs were choreographed and shot in his previous film Raja Rani). More shots fired, more bones broken, more running are cut crisply to match the BGM as the title is shown in the end of the teaser. Its not over yet, Vijay then schools a bunch of rowdies in a classroom. How? Twinkle Twinkle of course.

Going by the teaser, it looks like Theri will be an action packed film with Vijay in his massy-best. The cinematography by George C Williams look rich and colorful. The Father-Daughter sentiment interlaced into the cop story will ring the right notes as Atlee hopes to give his next hit, one that can be enjoyed by all types of audiences.
