Finally, the teaser of director Jayaraj’s much -talked-about film Veeram, is out. The film that premiered at the first BRICS film festival in September 2016, is based on the Shakespearean classic, Macbeth, and is the fifth instalment in Jayaraj’s Navarasa series, preceded by Karunam, ShanthamBheebhatsa and Adbhutham.

Starring Kunal Kapoor in the lead role, Veeram is jointly produced by Chandramohan D. Pillai and Pradeep Rajan. Made on a huge budget of Rs. 35 crore, the film is also said to be the biggest Malayalam film ever made till date.

Set in Kerala’s Malabar region, the movie’s highlights are the epic-war scenes choreographed by Hollywood film stunt director, Allan Poppleton of the Lord of the Rings and Avatar fame.

The teaser features Kunal Kapoor in a martial arts warrior’s get-up, doing sword fights and Kalaripayattu. Shivajith Nambiar, Himarsha Venkatsamy, Divina Thakur and Aaran play pivotal roles in the film.

The teaser introduces to the audience, the main character, Chandu Chekaver (Warrior), played by Kunal. Although his struggle to lip sync to the Malayalam dialogues looks obvious, Kapoor’s long mane and chiselled athletic physique make up for it. Himarsha essays the role of Unniyarcha, while Divina will be seen portraying the role of Kuttimani. The setting and VFX are spectacular, reminiscent of films like Baahubali and Santhosh Sivan’s Urumi.

A trilingual, Veeram is made in Malayalam, Hindi, and English. The music of the film has been done by Jeff Rona while the cinematography is by veteran DoP S.Kumar. The film is scheduled to release in December.
