Lyricist Vairamuthu has congratulated Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. In an official statement, Vairamuthu said, “I think the three bullets that pierced cruelly through your body on the afternoon of October 9, 2012, have now transformed into a bouquet of International prizes culminating in the Nobel Prize as bullets of peace.” He added, “Please accept my hearty wishes for continuing your great services to the neglected and suppressed people.”
Vairamuthu included a poem that he had earlier written about child labour.
In the bangle workshops of Ferozabad
The human seedlings for distress sale
The dust of glass pieces saws the breathing bags
Hence the salary and the death delivered in installments
Never have they gone to a school
Nevertheless their bangles failed to make a ‘O’
Invite those forty thousand children
To celebrate the Children’s Day.
