Sports films, especially those that speak of the success of Team India, seem to have got a lot of attention, especially after the release of Chak De! India. Maidaan, is the latest film in the Sports Film genre that speaks of a true story from the annals of Indian Football.
Starring Ajay Devgn and Priyamani, Maidaan celebrates football, and traces the story of Indian football from its early days to a time known as the “Golden Era of Indian Football”. The makers released a first look poster recently, and both posters feature the lead actor, Ajay Devgn, in a retro avatar with longer, combed back hair and high-waisted trousers, similar to the fashion of the 1950s and 1960s.

Maidaan is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma of Badhaai Ho! fame. The film has been shot extensively in Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai for over 50 days. The filming will be completed by April.
Maidaan also stars Gajraj Rao and well-known Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh. Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta, screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah respectively. The film is set to release on 27 November 2020.
