Obi-Wan Kenobi: Disney+ Announces Cast of the Upcoming Star Wars Series

Obi-Wan Kenobi, the upcoming series that is part of the Star Wars franchise which will stream on Disney+, announced its cast members through a press release on Monday.

The new series will feature Scottish actor Ewan McGregor, who portrayed the titular character (Obi-Wan Kenobi, also called Jedi Master), in the Star Wars films. The actor will reprise his role in the series as well. Obi-Wan Kenobi will also star Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Christensen will be reprising his role after he played Darth Vader in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005).

Other cast members of the series include Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. The casting director is Carmen Cuba. The entertainment company has not yet announced what roles the actors will play.

The series will begin shooting in April. According to the press release, “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

The series is directed by Canadian filmmaker Deborah Chow. She has previously directed two episodes of The Mandalorian series’ first season, the first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise. Obi-Wan Kenobi is executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and writer Joby Harold.

An exclusive series for Disney+, Obi-Wan Kenobi is one among the 10 Star Wars series that the Walt Disney Company announced during the virtual Investor Day 2020 meet the company held in December 2020. Other spinoff series from the Star Wars franchise announced by the company are Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic. The two spin-off television series will be set in The Mandalorian timeline.

The entertainment giant also has Rogue Squadron, a feature film from Star Wars franchise that will be directed by Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins. The film will release in theatres in Christmas 2023.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s release date has not yet been announced.
