ABC’s series General Hospital, that holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running American television soap, won six awards at the 48th Daytime Emmy Awards held on Saturday. This included taking home the Outstanding Drama Series Award.
The series won awards in categories such as Outstanding Casting for a fiction program, Outstanding Directing Team, Outstanding Technical Team, the Best Supporting Actor award for Max Gail, and the Maurice Benard award for the best performance in a lead role.
Jacqueline MacInnes who starred in the show, The Bold and The Beautiful, won the award for best leading actor award in the female category.
A special series created by the United Nations and YouTube titled Creators for Change in collaboration with Michelle Obama on raising awareness on education for girls, won the award in the Outstanding Daytime Non-fiction Special category.
Indian YouTuber and social media influencer Prajakta Koli was a part of the project along with creators Liza Koshy, Thembe Mahlaba.

The event, curated by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, was hosted for the fifth time by CBS’ The Talk’s Sheryl Underwood. “The content this year has been just stunning,” she said, taking the stage. “Tonight is going to be a party, and there’s going to be a lot to celebrate because TV is everywhere,” she said.
Alex Trebek, the host of game show Jeopardy!, and was posthumously awarded the Outstanding Game Show Host award. He died of pancreatic cancer in 2020. His show also won the Outstanding Game Show Award.
Larry King, who died in January, was also posthumously awarded the the Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host for his show Larry King Now.
Both Trebek and King were remembered by the industry during a tribute paid by the awards committee.
Singer Kelly Clarkson and Celebrity chef Ina Garten also won the best show host awards for the shows The Kelly Clarkson Show, and Barefoot Contessa: Cook Like a Pro respectively.
“Tonight, we honor the Daytime community for helping us find our way through the turbulence of the pandemic, increased racial unrest and the chaos of the presidential election as America faced one of its most trying years in our history,” said Adam Sharp in a statement, President & CEO, NATAS.
“This evening celebrated not only the best programming and performances of this year, but reflected on some of Daytime’s biggest icons that have left an indelible mark on our
medium,” he added.

In addition to Underwood, other presenters who appeared at the event include, Drew Barrymore, Kevin Frazier, Nischelle Turner, Nate Burleson, Rachel Lindsay, Mario Lopez, and Michelle Stafford among others.
