The motion poster of Chor Bazaar, the upcoming Telugu action-drama starring Akash Puri in the lead role, was released by the actor on social media on Sunday.
The film is produced by VS Raju under the banner of IV Productions.
It is written and directed by filmmaker Jeevan Reddy, who shot to fame with his 2019 biopic George Reddy. He also directed the Tamil-Telugu bilingual action thriller Dalam in 2013.
Speaking to Silverscreen India about Chor Bazaar, Reddy says, “This film has a mixture of different elements such as action, romance, and comedy. However, action plays an important part. As the title suggests, the film revolves around Hyderabad’s chor bazaar where stolen and second-hand products can be purchased. The market was established during the Nizam rule and it later went on to become a big marketplace on which the lives of many are dependent. It was earlier known as Jumme Raat but gradually, the name changed when stolen products started to be sold there.”
Reddy adds that the film revolves around how a certain group of people try to close down the marketplace and how the protagonist prevents them from doing so. “Akash Puri plays the son of a shopkeeper, Bachan Saab, and he is the one who saves the place. But there are also many sub-plots. The film shows the different facets of the market. There is a mafia, shopkeepers whose business is carried out at the market, families who live there, and politics over the land. ”
Debutante Gehna Sippy is the film’s female lead and she essays the role of an artist who paints idols at the marketplace.
Reddy began working on the script of Chor Bazaar after George Reddy’s release. “I have been to chor bazaar since I was 10 years old, and those memories inspired me to make a film on the livelihood of the people there. For the past few years, I have been visiting the market regularly while working on this story. There are about 40-50 shopkeepers whose stories have contributed to the script.”

Chor Bazaar went on floors in March, before the second wave of Covid-19 hit, reveals Reddy. “We built a set similar to chor bazaar since we did not want to risk shooting at the marketplace during the pandemic. It took about a month to complete the set.” Gandhi Nadikudikar is the art director of the film.
The filmmaker says the team aims to complete the film by August. “About 40% of filming is left to be completed and the editing and music work is going on in parallel.”
Suresh Bobbili has composed music for the film, which features five songs. Reddy adds that the film has about six fight sequences that are 5-6 minutes long, all handled by stunt coordinator Pruthvi Shekar.
The makers of Chor Bazaar have not yet decided on the date and mode of release.
