Vidya Balan & Shefali Shah-Starrer ‘Jalsa’ Goes on Floors

Actor Vidya Balan will next be seen in director Suresh Triveni’s upcoming film Jalsa. The film, also starring actor Shefali Shah in the lead, has started rolling.

Speaking about the film, Balan said in a statement, “Jalsa is an edgy but human story and I can’t wait to firstly start work on it and then share it with the world.”

The actor also shared the motion poster of the film on Instagram and revealed that the filming has begun. She added that the film will be a 2022 release.

This project sees Balan reuniting with Triveni after their 2017 film Tumhari Sulu.

Triveni, who has co-written the script with Prajwal Chandrashekar, said in a press release, “With Jalsa, we hope to engage, thrill and entertain movie-watchers with a unique tale of powerful characters and precarious circumstances.”

Shah, meanwhile, said, “It is a story with such a unique perspective that when Suresh first told me about it, I knew I just had to do it. I’m also excited to work with Vidya, whose work I have deeply admired.”

The supporting cast of Jalsa comprises of Rohini Hattangadi, Iqbal Khan, Vidhatri Bandi, Gurpal Singh, and Surya Kasibhatla, who will be making his debut with this film. Actor Manav Kaul will be seen making a special appearance.

With dialogues written by Hussain and Abbas Dalal, Jalsa is produced by T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment. The banners have previously backed films like Airlift (2016) and Baby (2015).

They also recently produced another Balan starrer, Sherni. The film, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in June, is directed by Amit Masurkar and co-stars Sharat Saxena, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala, and others.

Meanwhile, Balan’s short film Natkhat premiered on July 24 on the OTT platform Voot. The Ronnie Screwvala-produced film is directed by Shaan Vyas, who also co-wrote it with Annukampa Harsh.
