The first look poster and teaser of Kadaseela Biriyani, the upcoming Tamil film written and directed by debutant filmmaker Nishanth Kalidindi, was released by actor Vijay Sethupathi on Friday.
The film is produced by Nishanth under A Maestroes & Panoramaas Production banner and S Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra under the YNOTX banner.
Speaking to Silverscreen India about Kadaseela Biriyani, Nishanth says, “It is a crime comedy about three brothers from Tamil Nadu going to a small town in Kerala seeking revenge. It has action, comedy, and thriller elements. The title sums up the film, in a sense, by evoking that momentary relief when one has biriyani.”
The three brothers are played by Dinesh Mani, Vasanth Selvam (a theatre artist in his film debut), and Vijay Ram. Hakkim Shah plays the antagonist.
While the film’s story is written by Nishanth, he has co-written the screenplay and dialogues with Vivekanand Kalaivanan. “I’ve had this idea since 2016. It is very loosely inspired by a certain incident that I came across. I wanted to build a story around it. However, it does not make up the film’s entire story,” he mentions.
The film went on floors in 2019 and was wrapped up before the pandemic hit in March 2020. Kadaseela Biriyani was shot by cinematographers Azeem Mohammed and Hestin Jose Joseph. It was filmed in Pondicherry, Vandavasi in Tamil Nadu, and the Kottayam and Idukki stretches in Kerala.

After they completed the project, the team took it to YNOTX Productions. Nishanth says, “I am from Pondicherry and make a lot of documentaries. But I am not connected with the mainstream film industry. So we initially produced the film independently and then got in touch with YNOTX. They watched the film, liked it, and decided to back the project.”
Kadaseela Biriyani, which runs for nearly two hours, includes seven songs composed by Judah Paul and Neil Sebastian. The film’s background score is handled by Vinoth Thanigasalam.
Nishanth reveals that the film will hit theatres in October, likely within the first two weeks of the month.
