Actor Priyamani, who was last seen in Narappa, the Telugu remake of Asuran, will be starring in the upcoming Telugu film Bhamakalapam that will premiere on the streaming platform Aha.
Bhamakalapam is directed by first-time filmmaker Abhimanyu. Speaking to Silverscreen India, he said “It is a dark comedy thriller film about a nosy housewife, who gets into trouble due to her character and how she overcomes it. Priyamani plays the main character of the housewife and most of the story happens within an apartment complex in Hyderabad, with a bunch of characters.”
Abhimanyu had written the script during the lockdown, about a year ago and had pitched it to SVCC Digital, who later teamed up with Aha, green-lighting the project.
The filmmaker mentioned, “Bhamakalapam means a play of women and we have a handful of female characters in the film and the plot is driven by all these women primarily. The main character is a middle-aged housewife in her 30s, and Priyamani was one of the top three names that popped up. Apart from her, actors Sharanya Pradeep, Shanthi Rao, Pandian will also be seen in prominent roles.”

Jay Krishna, who has written the dialogues for the film, said that it is the first time he is working on a project in the thriller genre. “This is more of a story-based comedy and has funny situations. There are deep characterisations, which makes writing the dialogues easier since the sketch of roles is already given.”
The film went on the floors in September 2021 and was completed in December. It was shot by cinematographer Deepak Yaragera and Justin Prabakaran has composed two songs for the film, with Mark K Robin scoring the background music. Bhamakalapam is in the post-production stages, currently. The release date has not yet been announced but is expected to stream on Aha in February.
